First Post of the New Semester

I'm reading a (fairly old) book called The Death and Life of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs. I'm not very far yet, but in the first chapter she describes the relationship between resident involvement in the community and crime. She describes how in streets with a lot of activity, more people pay attention to the streets, and hence they become safer. I immediately thought back to last semester and our discussions of the benefits of social capital and attention. The more that is happening, the more there is to watch.

Thought I'd open up this semester with a connection to last semester.
