One thing about Pullman that I found interesting while I was reading Gilbert is that the town had its own exhibit at the World's Fair, only a year before the infamous strike. I think that the fact that the man felt it necessary to show off the town says a lot about Pullman-the-man's relationship to the town he created. I am of the the opinion that a functioning town is not a display piece and that for one individual to wield so much control is unhealthy.
I'm including a picture of a lonesome Pullman car abandoned on one of Chicago's few (and rapidly dwindling) street running rail lines.
